The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure:

• Exists to reduce the breast cancer mortality rate within our community and find a cure for the disease.
• Is one of 120 Komen Affiliates working in communities across the country.
• Invested over $2 million locally this year for screening, breast health education and treatment support.
• Invested $745,000 this year into medical research to find a cure for breast cancer.
• Spends just 5% of its budget on administration.

The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is dedicated to combating breast cancer on every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local organizations that provide mammogram screenings, breast health education, outreach and treatment support for underserved women. At least 25 percent of net income supports global breast cancer research to better diagnose, treat and ultimately cure breast cancer. This year, Komen Puget Sound awarded $2.9 million in grants, with over $2.1 million going to local organizations and $745,000 to global research.

Komen Puget Sound is the largest private funder of mammograms for low-income and uninsured women in Washington State. We provided vital breast cancer services to 35,200 individuals this year. Our funding focus is based on our Community Profile Report, which identifies disparities and existing gaps in breast health services within our Affiliate’s 16-county service area* and serves as the basis for our competitive grant making process.
