The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen:
Komen Puget Sound is dedicated to combating breast cancer on every front. An estimated 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local organizations that provide mammogram screenings, breast health education, outreach and treatment support for low income and underserved women. At least 25 percent of net income supports global breast cancer research to better diagnose, treat and ultimately cure breast cancer. This year, Komen Puget Sound awarded $1.26 million in grants, with $869,471 going to local organizations and $389,273 to global research.
Komen Puget Sound is the largest private funder of mammograms for low-income and uninsured women in Washington State. We provided free, vital breast cancer services to over 8,000 women this year, detecting breast cancer in nearly 300 women. Our funding focus is based on our Community Profile Report, which identifies disparities and existing gaps in breast health services within our Affiliate’s 16-county service area* and serves as the basis for our competitive grant making process.
We extend our gratitude to our dedicated corporate partners, generous donors, and the thousands of people who participate in the Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure and other Affiliate events. It is with their support that our work is possible.
Our 2013 Annual Report shows the impact of our collective efforts this past year.
