Cheryl joined the Komen Puget Sound staff as the Executive Director in June 2009 and was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2010.  As a survivor, her passion to end breast cancer increased through her understanding of the trials that women and their families go through while challenged with the disease. Her goal is to not only educate every woman about their risk, but to reinforce the role of the family and community on helping to reduce the barriers to early detection and successful treatment.

Cheryl has worked in the nonprofit sector for over twenty-eight years during which she has held leadership roles to promote healthy living in minority communities, advocacy for health, education and economic disparities and has successfully developed community collaborations to address critical needs in the San Francisco Bay Area and Pacific Northwest.

Cheryl attended the MBA Program at Golden Gate University in San Francisco and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from University of California, Berkeley and additionally received an Associate Degree from The Fashion Institute in Los Angeles.  Cheryl is very active in her church community and spends her spare time traveling primarily to do mission work.  She has two children, a daughter in Atlanta and a son who is married and lives in Washington DC with her grandson.
