SEATTLE – The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has awarded local Bank of America volunteers with the 2011 Outstanding Volunteer Group Award.
The Outstanding Volunteer Group award recognizes volunteers who work together as a cohesive group to support Komen Puget Sound’s efforts to meet the breast health needs of Western Washington women. These volunteers must demonstrate exceptional dedication, commitment, creativity, initiative and dependability. Their achievements, time, compassion and volunteer spirit serve as benchmarks for all volunteers.
Bank of America volunteers have provided invaluable service to Komen Puget Sound by supporting many educational and fundraising events, including the Susan G. Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure®. “Bank of America has a special knack for gathering together wonderful volunteers, sometimes on short notice. They show up, roll up their sleeves and help us take care of business. We couldn’t succeed without them, “ Cheryl Shaw, Executive Director of Komen Puget Sound.
75 percent of the funds raised by Komen Puget Sound’s events and campaigns goes toward funding grants to local organizations that provide mammogram screenings, breast health education, outreach and treatment support for low income and underserved women. The remaining 25 percent is invested into global breast cancer research to find the cure.
