20,000 Women Served by Komen Grants
February 18, 2009~The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure offers grant funding to local organizations that are meeting the breast health and breast cancer needs in our community. Our emphasis is on funding culturally appropriate programs targeting medically-underserved, uninsured or under-insured, low-income, rural, Latina/Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, African American, American Indian, lesbian and bisexual women living in the 16 county region. This year, the Affiliate funded more than $2.3 million in local grants Our 2009 grantees have served approximately 20,000 women during the first six months of the grant cycle through Komen–funded education, outreach, screening and treatment support programs.
