Local Breast Cancer Survivor Named Honorary Team New Balance Member for Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure®
Char Davis of Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood, is a longtime Komen Puget Sound volunteer
SEATTLE – Char Davis has been named Honorary Team New Balance member for the upcoming Susan G. Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure® on Sunday, June 5, at the Seattle Center. Davis is being honored for her personal perseverance against breast cancer and her dedication to raising breast cancer awareness.
Char Davis is a breast cancer survivor and one of Komen Puget Sound’s most active volunteers. She is currently on the Puget Sound Race for the Cure committee. Char lost her mother and brother to breast cancer and both her sisters are breast cancer survivors. Char’s mission is to prevent other families from going through what her family has faced. She races to reduce the number of women who do not survive and to make early detection screening available to everyone.
Her devastating family situation made her very angry for a number of years, but then she realized she had to “take the anger and turn it into something positive.” She started volunteering with Komen because she wanted to be part of the solution, not the problem.
This will be her sixth Race for the Cure. She has volunteered on the Race Committee for the past four years. For three years she served as the Race Course Chair.
“Breast cancer is an emotional roller coaster,” says Davis.” But then something happens and makes you feel good about participating with Komen.” Her mother used to say, “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
As the honorary team member, Davis has been outfitted with New Balance Lace Up for the Cure® shoes and apparel. She joins other individuals at more than 125 locations around the country, hosting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® in 2011.
“By participating in the Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure, Char and her team members across the country are an inspiration to us all,” said Rob DeMartini, DEO of New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. “New Balance is proud of our 22-year association with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. As a company, New Balance is dedicated to promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles as a way to reduce the risk of breast cancer.
