Small Grants Program

The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure offers small grants ($250 to $5,000) to non-profit (federally tax-exempt) organizations in our 16-county service area*. The Small Grants Program funds short-term projects that take place throughout the year. Funding priority will be given to projects that address the needs of rural, low-income, African American, Hispanic, Asian-Pacific Islander, American Indian and/or sexual minority women.

Small Grant Categories:

Conference Grant (up to $5,000)
Support for local scientific or educational conferences, symposia, and meetings. Preference given to those that enhance the interaction between the advocate, healthcare, and scientific communities.

Technical Assistance/Capacity Building (up to $5,000)
Assistance to small, community-based, non-profit organizations that serve Komen Puget Sound's priority populations and/or geographic areas, but do not currently have the capacity to successfully apply for the Large Community Grants Program or could benefit from additional support/capacity to successfully implement proposed program.

Mobile Mammography (up to $1,500)
Funding is provided to programs that reduce barriers to breast cancer screening for rural and medically underserved women (low-income, African American, Latina, Asian, Pacific Islander, American Indian, Alaska Native and sexual minority) by bringing mobile mammography screening to their communities. These funds may assist with mobile mammography provider travel costs to rural areas (staff travel time, meals, overnight stays and fuel costs), event advertisement/promotion costs, refreshments for clients, etc. These funds may not be used to pay for screening procedures.

Travel Scholarship (up to $1,000)
Travel assistance to grantees, health care professionals, and advocates who are attending, participating in, and/or presenting at meetings, conferences, or symposia that increase community knowledge of breast health/cancer and facilitate the exchange of ideas between the scientific and lay public. Individuals may receive a maximum of one (1) travel scholarship per year.

Miscellaneous Small Grants (up to $1,000)
Support for “unexpected” costs associated with a project; e.g. purchase of educational materials, presentation session food costs, survivor recognition, etc.

Apply for a Small Grant:

Small grant requests can be submitted using the Small Grant Application form or via letter and are accepted year-round. Small grants applications are due by the 25th day of each month. A detailed budget must be included with the request.  A letter of agreement will be issued for each small grant funded and will serve as the grant contract.
